Chinchilla has been updated - New Red Eye gene added
  • Like chocolate was before, chinchilla is currently listed as a fantasy gene. Also like chocolate chinchilla is a real gene (found in chinchilla rabbits) that I borrowed for our horses.

When this gene was added, genes borrowed from other species were given the fantasy flag. I no longer do this, so am happy to make chinchilla a non-fantasy gene now. However; the red eyes are not realistic for horses. Cats are about as large as you can get and still have pigmentless eyes appear red/pink and even then the pink eyed cats look blue eyed in most light. The blue is a result of the way light scatters and is reflected inside the eye. The larger the eye the more scattering and less red it will look.

Right now some of the chinchilla horses in the game have bright red eyes. It's the one thing that keeps me from removing the fantasy status. If I change them to a more realistic gray-blue-lavender found in actual large animals they can have the fantasy tag removed. You can see my suggested appearce for them in this image here.

Regarding clubs, this change would mean that horses with the chinchilla gene would be eligible for the non fantasy clubs (if they had no other fantasy gene) and being fantasy would not be required to enter the chinchilla club.

So here is the feedback I want from you:

Do you currently breed chinchilla horses?

If so how much of a focus are they for you?

If not would you start breeding chinchilla if it was no longer fantasy?

Would you prefer the red eyes stay or are you fine with the more realistic color?

    Thanks everyone!

    ---------------------------------------

Thank you everyone for the feedback. This update has been put in.

-Chinchilla horses will no longer be flagged as fantasy for having the chinchilla gene.
-Current chinchilla horses can have their fantasy flag removed by opening their page and refreshing their image. This will not work if they have other fantasy genes. It will look like you have to refresh the image twice, you don't, it just won't show on the page the first time you do this.
-If the new eye color does not show up after refreshing the image you will need to regenerate it instead (no new seed needed).
-You do not have to update the eye color if you do not want, it will happen over time eventually.

-The Fantasy:Chinchilla club is now just the Chinchilla club. The entry rules have not changed. They still just need to have the chinchilla gene.
-If you have removed the fantasy flag off your horse you can now enter it in any of the non fantasy clubs.

On forest server VenemousGiant and on mesa server Khisanth have suggested an eye color gene which I think is a great compromise. I have added a new gene to the GMT lab, as a fantasy mutation of tiger eye. RE (red eye) is only 2 gmts, completely dominate, and no license required.

I did not get the impression that anyone on any server was particularly invested in the red eyes but if I have messed up your chinchilla lines please send me a PM. I can add the RE gene in for you.

  • I love chinchilla, but the red eyes always threw me off a lil, and made me not focus on it. I would definitely put more work into getting chinchilla into my lines if the eyes were more realistic, because I love what it does to coats.

Delmari: Black based (E/E a/a or E/e a/a) with any number of genes that can add white or other color shifts.

  • I currently breed chinchillas.

They aren't a huge focus mainly because of the fantasy tag I try to keep them separate from my non fantasy lines.

I am fine with a more realistic eye color. I like chinchilla because of the coat color not eye so changing eye color won't bother me at all.

I would also love to see the fantasy tag removed so they are no longer limited to fantasy clubs. I would likely focus on breeding more of them if the fantasy tag was removed.
  • I would prefer the more realistic eye color. I also would start breeding more when the fantasy tag is removed.

  • I breed a lot of chinchillas, as they are one of my main lines. I would absolutely love if they were not considered fantasy, and I would also love if their eyes was more natural :x

  • I do breed chinchilla and I have a stallion doing really well in the chinchilla club, would the removal of chinchilla from fantasy status affect the leaderboard!?

  • I have some chinchilla mixed in with my focus eras. I've been on board with them not being fantasy since you started kicking around this idea. I'd love to see more of them.

If fixing the eyes makes that possible I'm all in.

  • I breed chinchilla and have chocolate mixed in to it. I like the red eyes because they remind me of Marten rats (though the original came from rabbits). But if this makes them no longer fantasy and my chocolate and regular chins can also enter their color clubs, I will take it!

I like the appearance of the lavender eyes too.
  • I personally love the red eyes, but that’s very on brand for me in general. The lavender is cool too, but I love having a spooky red eye. Would tiger eye make the eye color brighter, or would chinchilla not be impacted? Asking since I breed so much tiger eye. If we change the eye color from red, I would love to see a fantasy gene similar to tiger eye but instead introduces red eyes, maybe for Halloween?

  • I think a separate fantasy red eye variant of the tiger gene that is fantasy is a perfectly reasonable compromise.

  • I breed for chinchilla. I have no problem with the eye color change or the fantasy tag change.

  • I do not currently breed heavily for chinchilla, as the red eyes put me off quite a bit when I was actively breeding them.
I would prefer a more realistic eye color, and might or might not start a new line with chinchilla depending on how overwhelmed I feel at the time.

  • I love the chinchilla and they are a foundational part of the "Frosty Chins" Ice chin mu line of my Concentration 64 (no repeating sires) home barn project. The change would not affect adding Chinchilla into my foundations regularly.
I would like the non-red eyes better.
  • One of my show pony breeders is a chinchilla stallion. I want to breed up some of his daughter to help my gold mare herd numbers but I try for leaderboards so I was nervous. I would go forward with my chinchillas way more confidently if they weren't fantasy

  • Wait... Does that mean chocolate isn't a fantasy gene anymore either? I still see it in the fantasy clubs

  • Omg that new red eye gene is going to have to go on some horses so fast
  • So now we can get chinchilla without the fantasy restriction and we get a new red eye Gene that can be separate from it thank you.
Quickly figuring budget for gmts this month.
  • Thank you so much for taking my suggestion into consideration! Time to make a new line :x
