    I'm sorry to make another discussion about this, I couldn't figure it out and I have the worst eye for DP...

    I made this mare out of the ExPro Splash create, and she immediately jumped out as being exceptionally red, and she has no sooty. So naturally, I wondered if she had DP...

    ...so, I test bred her to this stallion, hoping for a chestnut baby that could tell me something...

    ...and I got this foal. At first, I was a little disappointed because she is visibly not liver, but when I color tested her I noticed she has no sooty gene, but she is darker, right? She looks to me as dark as her dad (who has one sooty) below his varnish.

    I recognize it's also possible her mom has one DP but didn't throw it. Any help is appreciated, DP is so difficult for me!

    Your mare definitely looks DP to me! You're so lucky!

    Just as an aside, to get livers from your mare you will need to bred to liver stallions--a horse needs 3 darkening genes to be liver and she only has DP to pass so the foals will need DP and sooty from their dad to show liver. You will know the mare is DP because the foals will be liver with only one sooty allele!

    As I'm reading your comment, I'm thinking "Yes, I know that, yay I'm getting the hang of DP!" but then I realize the whole "test cross" wasn't with a good genotype and it never occurred to me as I was doing it... One day I'll get it :))
