Thanksgiving Dinner Challenges
-
My wife is amazing. She takes on all the work of cooking our Thanksgiving meal every year, while our roommate and I relax and do other things. Each year the meal has been scrumptious and the turkey perfect. This year she had some trouble though.
The trouble started yesterday, when she made the cranberry sauce. She added twice the amount of sugar called for in the recipe, and ooh boy was that some tart stuff! Made my mouth pucker. She added the same amount of sugar again today (4x the recipe amount!), and while still a bit tart it was quite tasty.
Then it began again today with deviled eggs - she put the eggs in the Instant Pot for 5 min like we always do, but they all exploded and burned! (She used the newer Instant Pot which we aren't very experienced with.) Difficulties continued with the gravy (lumpy and excessively greasy), the mashed potatoes (runny, necessitating the addition of a pouch of instant potato flakes), and the turkey (didn't come up to temp until 2 hours after we intended to eat). She also tried to make caramel sauce from sweetened condensed milk, and completely failed, resulting in a caky, dry, almost-black burnt mess. And then we discovered that the stuffing was nearly inedible.
She came into the office where I was busily sorting Exceptional creates from yesterday to vent. "How many times have I cooked Thanksgiving dinner?" she asked. "This is ridiculous and frustrating!"
Even though she won't see this, I just want to say to someone else how much I love her and how grateful I am that she loves me back, and how lucky I am that she chose to marry me.Folly's Fantasies #43484 (she/her): Horses, straws, and eggs from my Doubleskunk tribute herd are always free.Thanked by 1DreamyMeadows -
Tell her everyone has an off day! My mum has been cooking professionally since 1979 and will occasionally have a day where nothing wants to go right.#28036Thanked by 1FollysFantasies

I tried to make my husband a birthday cake this year. I broke a wooden spoon when I was trying to scoop and spread the ice cream and dropped an egg on the floor when I made the batter. I make cakes all the time, and I've baked for years. That was my first time ever dropping an egg. We all do it. No biggie :)Thanked by 1FollysFantasies

Yep, I baked 6 loaves of sourdough one weekend and every single one of them was flat and rock-hard. Under fermented, I got in a hurry.
They did NOT get given to my coworker as planned LOLFolly's Fantasies #43484 (she/her): Horses, straws, and eggs from my Doubleskunk tribute herd are always free.
