I think you're just really unlucky. I tend to grab other peoples creates, as they're always more interesting! I find out that I get pangare a lot, as well as a ton of rank 1 HH.

Herd helper is just the random grab bag. Each gene has it's now degree of rarity. I get a lot of chestnuts, bay would be second common color followed by black. Gray, cream and dun are also in there. If you are really lucky. li,e really, you will get something like rabicanno, appaloosa, and silver, but most of the time you need herd helper to help you with that. Once in a blue moon, you get one that shows DP, but yea, without the heard helper, a lot of them will be chestnuts. There is a part of the forum where several people share their herd helpers. I'd suggest looking there, you only get about 3 or 5 horses a helper, but there is usually a nice assortment of helpers, and you can pick several.

The more HHs you activate the better your chances of getting a good one.

Chestnuts are easily the most common.
