I said goodbye to Pocomoonskyeyes...aka Sky today

    This has been a very hard day for me. I rehomed my 18 year old paint gelding today because he had heaves. I wasnt able to get it under control. He went to people that only live a short distance from me.
    They have another horse that has heaves but since he has been running on pasture he hasnt had a flare up. So hoping that will happen for my Sky.

    I am heartbroken though just the same. I know I did right with the decision. My hubby and I were talking of having him put down but he wanted to give Sky a final chance. He still has a good life ahead of him. I can go see him anytime I want. Planning on doing that this weekend.

    Thanks Seaswell. If they decide they dont want him anymore we have a contract stating that he comes home to us. I have been fighting heaves with him for the past 3 years. This year none of my meds I got from the vet was working this time. I hated it but I also didnt feel right about putting him down either.

    I'm honestly not even sure what heaves are, as I haven't had much opportunity to be around live horses in the last 20 years. But it sounds uncomfortable in a big way.

    I can relate to wanting the best for our babies though. My husky is pushing 15 and suffering old man pains. I hope we get another year. It's good you have the option to try again if he doesn't work out in his new home.

Golden Tokens have been renamed Diamond Tokens to prevent mixing them up with GMTs.

Double boosted over cap horses are now designated as ****Star or ****Gold, again to prevent further member confusion issues I have been seeing.
