Egg Pulling
-
Can anyone recommend a 'Time table' for maximum efficiency for pulling eggs? This will be my first month of premium and I'd love to start collecting eggs off my mares rather than having to keep every expensive gene to stallions only.
Any advice is appreciated
Thanks :)ID - 47350 (Most Licences) Breeding heavy. Carry it Forward Project - Snf, Kp, Dp, Df, Sa and Sb2. Welsh Dreams - Full of fantasies

What I like to do is collect single eggs every so many days (there's a wait time between pulling), then at the end of the month, I mass flush. Throughout the month when single pulling, you get so many numbers of eggs, then with the mass flush, you still can get up to 14 eggs. Also, you can pull eggs after breeding season ends, as that doesn't count as breeding.Love,

You can pull every 5 days, and then flush once. What I do is pull the 1st, 6th, 11th, 16th, 21st. Then I flush the 26th. That gives me enough time, if I choose, to use all eggs that season. This gives you a minimum of 13 eggs, and a maximum of 19 eggs, depending on how many eggs the mass flush (between 8-14) gives you at the end. But each time you pull, you get one egg.

I do the same as Fallen, except if the month has 31 days, then I pull on the 26th and flush on the 31st.ID 108

@SpryOfJune @FallenShadows714 @Maribo thankyou so much. I think I'll have to set it on my calendar. Is it a time consuming thing to do? Also when pulling eggs, can you continue to GMT the mare? If so do they have the Gene's at the time of pulling, or the most recent?ID - 47350 (Most Licences) Breeding heavy. Carry it Forward Project - Snf, Kp, Dp, Df, Sa and Sb2. Not time consuming, but you just have to remember to do it! I’m not sure about pulling eggs and then GMTing, I’ve not tried before.
-
I don’t believe you are able to GMT or RGS a mare after you have pulled eggs. Same if you pull straws from a stallion. That said, I know I used to have some embryos made with straws or live cover from a stallion i later turned into a mare, so could no longer implant the embryos. So I think the system may not be totally fool proof.
-
It will allow you to modify a stallion or mare after pulling from them, but there is a cutoff, which I believe is 50 eggs/straws.
-
Something that I do to save time finding the correct mares is put a space at the front of the name of the mares that I pull eggs from, that way they appear at the top of the list when you can pull eggs. Any mares that are in the waiting period after pulling an egg will be at the bottom of the list with the number of days to the next egg pull in parentheses after the number of eggs already in the freezer.
One thing I have noticed is if you do a mass flush at the end of the season, the mare is reset at the monthly rollover and you can pull eggs again on the 1st. If you pull a single egg at the end of the season, she is not reset and you will have to wait the usual 5 days before you can pull another egg.Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses. There is no cutoff. You can GMT as long as the horse does not have any living decendants. You can not do a sex change though. I have GMTed several horses with 100-150 eggs pulled.ID 108

Ah! Yes, the sex change must have been the part I was thinking about. I knew there was something. :-??
-
Ah okay. So it's worth mass flushing my project mares today even though I haven't finished gmt-ing them?ID - 47350 (Most Licences) Breeding heavy. Carry it Forward Project - Snf, Kp, Dp, Df, Sa and Sb2. Welsh Dreams - Full of fantasies
