Not sure if i need a break or what to do!
-
So I’ve always been a super active member. Spending hours on the game each day.
The past few seasons however it’s felt more like a chore then fun to come on daily and check my herd helpers.
Not to mention breeding and naming! This seasons 3 year olds got put in pastures so late because I hadn’t named them! All my 2 yr olds are still unnamed and they are supposed to go into pastures within 2 weeks!
I havnt organised my breeding for next season.
As it is I’ve cleared out a lot of foundie maress. My foundie stallions are getting older and I’m not intending to gmt anymore anytime soon as I’ll focus on my higher gens for a bit.
But basically I still love the game but with so much going on (just moved into a new place, have a 2yo son and now my horse is on agistmemt so that’s travel everyday now too), everything’s so busy and I’m just not finding the time to enjoy the game like I used to :(
I have thought of taking a season or 2 off from breeding but I feel like that would be a waste as it’s a wasted season with my stallions.
Anyone else been in this situation?
What did you do?
Sorry for the novel and the ramble/vent! LolBreeding liver chestnut drafts that carry snowflake and kp.
Also breeder of mushroom, watercolour, chinchilla, splash m, wrong warp and thunderstruck.
Horses generally always available.
PM me for any enquiries. -
I stopped playing for like 8 months. Came back and picked up with who I had left (and a buttload of cash since I had a basic upgrade).
Remember, you don’t have an obligation to a living creature here. Abandoning them for a month or two or twelve isn’t going to actually hurt anyone. Don’t make your life harder by feeling like this is just one more chore to do in your day.

Maybe set up your pastures so they can be auto bred on the 14th, (assuming you have more than on pasture) then just pop on once before the end of breeding season to grab the foals. Then you aren’t wasting the seasons, but you also aren’t stressing over having to be on to manage everything. Take a half hour in the evening once or twice a week to name and sort, then get back to life.
I’ve found as my stable got bigger it was a bit more stressful managing everything and getting sorted, but I just do small groups here and there to prevent getting overwhelmed. I too, still have some 3 year olds that aren’t named and likely won’t be named before breeding season starts next month either.Thanked by 1GeneverGinger -
I like @FallenShadows Idea!
Or, ONLY breed the mares you are exited about. ONLY breed the stallions you are excited about. The second you get "ugh" just add the foals to an auction barn and have more money when you come back.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

I also only name breeding horses. Show ponies get their generation (ex. 2G) added to the front of their ID. Saves a lot of time!Thanked by 1duelinghawks

Yeah, naming foals can take a lot of time, so I only add a Z to the beginnings of show pony names if they didn't pass testing at all and a Z-generation number if they did. It's an arbitrary difference but I like to know with my mares if they produce anything that passes testing in the first place. I also don't get hat original with my naming of breeding horses--I just combine the names of parents and see what happens.
As for sorting foals, try just going through and picking out your favourites before all the dirty work. Don't be afraid to alter a horse that you don't really need just because it might be useful.
Do take a break, too, or just breed your favourites, or, if all else fails, open your barns in a giveaway. I had about 800 breeding mares which totally overwhelmed me, and I decided to quit and give away everybody. It turned out that once I only had a couple pastures to run I had fun again. -
When I was starting to get overloaded on the foals I SBAed everyone. Then I only had to name a few. (And even then its just their gen, and genetic prefix). And of course keep a handful of show ponies. Mass auction everyone else and get a nice chunk of change for when you want to do lots of stuff again.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

I cut down my breeding barns sizes by half. I also am very strict about the number of foals I keep each year so that I don't get overwhelmed by the number of foals to name. Some people also have so many lines going they need a large amount of ponies to facilitate the line. I just have one line for warmbloods, one line for riding horses, and one line for draft horses. If I start to get overwhelmed again I will probably cut one of the lines. So that is something you could do too. Focus on a specific line that you want and cut out all the breeding animals that don't fit that goal.SALVISTAR PERFORMANCE HORSES

Thankyou for the tips everyone!
I already sba advice absolutely everyone. I don’t even look at my show ponies, and strict with my colts that stay intact and in recent seasons have also been stricter on fillies. Even only name my breeding horses.
I like fallenshadows idea of letting pastures auto breed.. for some reason that never occurred to me.

And don’t be afraid to take a break if you need to. If you come back in a while and your herd has depleted due to aging out, we will all help you restock! I quit a couple years ago now and came back and now I’m even bigger than ever. I have way too many horses to breed everything every season. I only got to my foundations this season and it’s hard because I know I have a ton of stallions who aren’t getting used who are really nice, but I also get stressed about how much time it takes to go through, Name, tattoo or sell my foals once they go through testing. It takes a LOT of time, even when you streamline the process as much as possible.
The biggest thing to remember is that this is a game, not a job. If it’s not fun, walk away for a while. It’s not suppose to be stressful—there’s enough of that in real life!!! -
I haven't been as active either these last few months. I just bred my foundies and a few generations this season. I still have loada of horses to name but until my RL starts to settle some I am just seeing what combos I can get in my foals.

Also don't feel you need to breed everything, just keep a smaller empty pasture and breed a few favourites in there as the mood takes you!
Having a new foundation stallion every few years though does help keep the game fresh for me
