Breeding Brindles
  • So if I breed two brindles, would my odds of producing another brindle be higher or the same as just breeding two horses and having a brindle foal?
  • From what I understand, having a brindle parent does increase the changes slightly. But it must be a parent and not a grandparent, etc. I'm not too sure if having both parents be brindle ups the chances even more.

That said the chance of getting a brindle is REALLY low, even if you do use brindle pairings. It may increase the chance slightly, but it's still rare.

  • It is higher with a brindle parent but it is still only a very slim chance. I have found not a lot of difference with 2 brindle parents to just one but either way the success rate is possibly 1 in 100 maybe if you have a brindle parent

  • I have a brindle foundation stud who has produced probably close to 300 foals for me, and I have only ever gotten one brindle foal from him. The chances of brindle are slim to none, but yes, having brindle parents increases your chances ever so slightly.

  • I love brindle but yeah, just like everyone says it isn't really something you can breed for with any reliability.

I have 13 brindle foundation studs that I breed to about 250 brindle foundation mares and, so far, I seem to average 2 brindle foals a season.

Help me build my black brindle army!
Always looking to buy B/Red foundation brindle drafts in black, blue roan, grullo, classic champagne, etc.

I can be very scatterbrained and forgetful so if I don't get back to you in a decent amount of time just poke me.
  • I've been breeding for probably 24 seasons now, and have a ton of brindle foundations that I use, and I've never once produced a brindle foal. It's just luck of the draw!
  • I have been playing for 3.5ish real years and i have bred around 29 brindles in that time frame. Two of them were 3rd gens (i accidentally sold one back to the game... oops lol) and the rest are/were all second gens born in pasture. Only one of those 29 had two non-brindle parents. All the rest had at least one brindle parent. There have been seasons that i get 5 brindles and the have been seasons where i got none at all. It's basically all luck based. I just consider breeding a bridle a happy accident lol But i still SBA my bred brindles. They are held to the same strict breeding rules as all my other babies :)

  • In total I have bred 46 brindles, including 4 this season, but I breed about 2500 mares every season. So maybe my 1 in 100 was optimistic.
Of those only 2 had nonbrindle parents (but they did have brindle grandparents).

  • Out of the thousands of foals I have bred over the years, I think I've bred 6 or 7 brindles all up! That's with using a lot of brindle foundations too, I just don't seem to get brindle very often LOL!
  • Brindle mares have a better odd than brindle studs to produce brindle foals.

  • Oooo! Did not know THAT juicy nugget!

  • Logic is that you need twinning to occur and if twins run in the mare line that means a lot more than if twins run in the sire line. It is significantly more common with brindle mares.

  • So are twins more likely from a brindle line too? Does the game logic work that if twins are created, you can either get one brindle foal or two non-brindle foals?

  • I read somewhere yesterday that Brindles are "created" by twin embryos "fusing" together. I don't know the accuracy, but that's what I heard.

  • I got some of my brindle foals by luck others were because I put several brindle mares in pasture with brindle sires and hoped for the best

  • I have been extremely lucky my main stallion, has given me 3 brindle foals out of 130ish total foals. A stallion I no longer own gave me 2 brindles with less than 100 foals total. I’ve only been playing a little over a year, and up until recently was only breeding about 70 mares a month. So I’d say I’ve been extremely lucky with brindle babies.
  • @SpryOfJune you are correct. Some brindles are twins fused together as embryos. These types of brindles are called chimeras. Chimeras can also have non brindle splotchy coat patterns. In real life I think there are one or two types of brindle in horses that are inheritable but I'm not sure of the mode of inheritance on those genes.
