Well That Made For A Craptastic Valentines Day
  • Ended up having to take my hedgehog to the vet to cross over rainbow bridge this afternoon.

Might seem silly to mourn such a small little being but for all her prickliness Saskia was a very well loved little hedgie for the last 6.5 almost 7 years for which she spent in my posession. She was a rescue and not the most sociable of beings because of it but she is loved.

Sorry for the depressing post but I feel almost like I have to acknowledge her this way since I don't have tons of photos of her.
    Dabbler in EVERYTHING.
  • Sorry about your baby! <<<Hugs>>> Was she old for a hedgie?

  • @ConfluenceFarms Thank you *hugs* She was somewhere between 1-2 when I got her and I've had her just shy of 7 years. Hedgies have a 5-6 year life expectancy with most being within the 5 year area, it's pretty unusual for them to make it to 7 or 8 though they can and do like my girl.
    Dabbler in EVERYTHING.
  • Thank you for giving Saskia one last great gift. I am very sorry for your loss. After following a very sweet hedgie breeder on social media, I’ve grown quite fond of her array of hedgehogs. It sounds like your hedgie lived a good, long life with you and was very loved and appreciated. I don’t find it silly to mourn a beloved pet ❤️

  • Awww that happened to me last year. I got the call from home that one of our pregnant mama goats had to be put down. We lost her babies too. I spent all of date night crying. It's always horrible to lose a friend.

  • So sorry for your loss. I have never owned a hedgehog but I have always thought they were cute. It still hurts no matter what our fur babies are. My boys and I were all mourning when we lost their pet rats. Harmiony and Chocolate. Harmiony was a hairless rat and she loved to do tricks that the boys taught her to do.
  • Aww. :-S So sorry for your loss!

  • I feel so sorry for you! Don't worry I feel your pain, my budgie girl Popeye died yesterday too from depression because I was too scared to get her a friend. Cause I've lost a budgie to my dog, to a spider perhaps, and to an air refresher. (The air refresher was then that I discovered how fragile they are.) I was so scared that I'd loss one then get another and it'd just continue...I wish I wasn't so selfish. Poor girl died all alone...and in a spot that broke my heart.
