I do not understand why he was gelded; can someone explain?
  • This boy was my hardest speld, and I don't understand why it happened. I was under the impression that BA compares to the sire and not the dam. In that case, I comp tested him and he was 'as good as' his sire. He papered higher than his sire, he tested consistent...I just don't understand how he was gelded. Unless BA looks at both sire and dam?

  • Breeding advice compares the foal to both parents. It used to be colts were compared only to their sire and fillies their dams but with the new testing system we got quite some time ago, Ammit changed it.

  • And a C to Blue pairing will rarely give intact foals because of the paper level difference. Try breeding your mare to 4th gen A papered studs next time and you should have a better chance. But also keep in mind that a lot of it is just luck.

  • I was thinking that might have been it. Don't know how I got it in my head that it compared only to the sire. I'll try to remember to breed for papers from now on. Thanks!

  • Or, conversely, if the colt compares aga and you like it, you could just not use BA and keep it intact.
