Het may actually change his appearance, but not much. But for me, the answer is yes! Always pearl!#28036

Yeah, technically there's a slight lightening you get from pearl, but it won't be a very noticeable change. Here's het cream het Pearl on a freaky Friday. The cream really lightens them up, but het Pearl doesn't do as much.

She's Hom Pearl and a Freaky Friday. (I know not quite the same coloring as your horse, but still a dark coat.) She's also roan and hom KP. So there is that. -
I should add he's hom KP too. And splash M does lighten horses.

I love black pearls. I'd do hom pearl if it was me but do het if you don't want to change him too much.

@RedDeeFarms he's a blue roan not a black. :-)

Waldgraf has a few blue roan pearl snowflakes to give you an idea, but they are not brindle.

Gene Guide Update!
The sunshine gene, previously known only from one line of Standardbreds has been discovered in a TWH. The gene guide has been updated with this new information. Sunshine may be much wider spread than originally thought.1/27/2026 3:58 AM EST
