Superior to Sire...Failed SBA

So I have been using the comparison test as a sort of cheat to avoid the SBA button but just discovered it's not fool proof...cuz I'm the fool lol! I have some more serious culling to do than I thought.BREEDING DARKNESS (ok black liver but it sounds cooler)

I don't think I've seen this. Really surprised by that.

Probably out of a really nice mare. :)ID: 45055

His dam must have been higher than his sire. So even though he is superior to his sire, he was worse than his dam. SBA compared to both parents, not just the parent of the same sex.

He's a gorgeous little guy.

Like Maribo said, he could just be inconsistent. Performance test him and see what it says :)Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

How would inconinconsistency
Have anything to do with whether he got gelded or not? I thought the only reason why they'd be gelded/or sprayed was if they weren't good breeders?
(Sorry if that came off as rude. I'm not trying to be! I'm just really curious as to why that would happen) -
Everyone is right that mentioned the issue was the mare being better than the foalBREEDING DARKNESS (ok black liver but it sounds cooler)

@MariaChapinFarm3 Every once in a while a foal can be so badly inconsistent that they get snipped because of it, but I'm not sure if they would test superior to the sire in that case.ID 45703 | he/himOpen barn policy - no closed lines! @Lallyhop can you provide a source on that? To my knowledge "consistency" mostly has to do with PT, and PT has nothing to do with whether or not a foal can pass SBA.ID: 45055

@Ragtatter I think I remember reading about it on a post about a horse testing “very inconsistent” about 4 months ago. That horses that are too inconsistent can wind up snipped by BA/SBA. I’m pretty sure Ammit herself posted that.
Edit: Attempting to find the thread to link itThanked by 1Lallyhop -
Inconsistency definitely used to have an impact on foals passing BA/SBA. However since BA/SBA were adjusted to be not quite as strict I haven't actually noticed inconsistency being a big problem for my horses passing SBA. I would think it still would have some effect though, like for the very inconsistent ones, although I don't seem to get them anyway. Comparison testing just looks at breeding quality, BA/SBA also takes consistency into account to a small degreeThanked by 1Lallyhop

But yes I agree in this case it was simply a very good mare!
-
I can't remember the actual conversation about it, because it was quite some time ago, but i know i personally have had foals who were better than their parents get snipped by inconsistency. An unalter and a GMT consistent later, I had an intact superior foal that passed SBA. And by this i mean even this year (2018). I wish i knew where that discussion was but that was so long ago i can't remember :/Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

My first ever home bred star boy, out of an A papered father and a blue papered mother was snipped. Worse than parents I think not. Tested and lo and behold, inconsistent. I saved up to ungelded him and make him consistent and then he stayed intact with testing. I am convinced consistency is a factor. All into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps.

Yes, they can still be altered if they are very inconsistent. I think I remember it being said that it was more than 3 pts inconsistency, but I'm not absolutely sure.ID 108Thanked by 1Lallyhop
