Why is it mandated that if we want to block a player the player has to be informed why and there has to be an attempted resolution?

Hypothetically speaking what if your very reasoning for blocking them is you just straight up can not stand the player and it's their very character traits that make you stabby mcstabby?

That's not something that can be resolved and more than likely advising said person hey you've been blocked because so and so just plain can't stand you and doesn't want you ever having access to any of their pixels... well that just seems like it would escalate the problem further instead of just being able to have the player whom is bothered by the other person just quietly block the person and be done with it.

Sorry if this makes no sense, if I sound like a jerk or like I'm trying to start drama, I'm not. I'm running on 0 sleep and this was plaguing my brain as I explored the various sidebar options from the home page and all I could think was well that would escalate quickly so I was curious for the reasoning behind it being mandatory.

That is strange. Every other game I've played just lets you block someone and move on. They don't even get a notification (I don't think), they just stop seeing your posts and can't find you in a search.

It's probably just trying to keep us all happy with one another and thinking twice about blocking them. I am not naive enough to think everyone will get along but maybe we don't have to resort to blocking - it's not something we can do in real life without a court order after all! :)

There used to be dozens and dozens of people blocking others for things like not following breeding rules, or flipping horses via the auction, and it turned into a tool for "punishing" someone. There was nothing the person could do to make things right, since they had no way of contacting the person doing the blocking. Then friends were pulled in, and they got mad at each other and then cliques formed, and forum was not a pleasant place.

If you can be diplomatic enough to put your feelings into words that leave open the possibility of reconciliation, it shows your willingness to meet the other party halfway.

Personally, I believe it is one reason why this forum is the great place it is!

ConfluenceFarms has it exactly right. What I found is when you could just block at a drop of a hat people did so for exceedingly petty reasons and sometimes purely just to bully other players. It made our community a worse place. It also helps me understand what is going on in the community. Has someone been blocked by a bunch of people because they are actually a jerk and should be kicked from the game or has a circle of people decided to be jerks and block a good person because they are jerks?

It's also a much more mature solution than just blocking everyone like angry children. Promoting a mature community helps keep everyone on equal terms

Thank you everyone for answering :) I can definitely see how people could go on a blocking spree and that in and of itself could become problematic quickly. I do agree that trying to talk things out is generally the better way to go, sorry if it seemed like I didn't.
