I think most of them had a sock on the front leg. But the one I'm used to seeing, where the Horse is basically the narrator, I think the sock was on the back leg. I don't remember who created the movie I'm used to watching, but of I'm not mistaken, the sock was on the back leg in it.

@CrewCut Cass Ole in the BS had 4 white socks. I really want to know that they used to cover them that stayed through all those scenes galloping through that salt water! They used Docs Keepin Time for the 1994 Black Beauty, and he did have a small white sock on one rear :-)
(A crupper is a strap that loops around the dock to keep the saddle from sliding forward on horses that have flat withers)BREEDING DARKNESS (ok black liver but it sounds cooler)

My mare was used in the 1994 Black Beauty movie. She was very quiet and they used her to jump steeple chase fences with the actors. She was dark bay, with 3 socks and a star stripe. I haven't any photographs :( The mare had the contract for the movie when I bought her, I didn't get paid for her movie acting . I had been teaching stuntmen to ride and heard of her [Bess] being for sale, so long as I honored her movie time. I sold her to an older gentleman for hacking/trailriding.
But it was weird getting her back, all in black .
and I cried so much when I was 7years old reading BlackBeauty that I have never watched the movie, silly, I know.
