High PTs but low income?
-
My gelded and spayed horses in my "money makers" tab all have good scoring which I thought meant they'd be earning good money, but they they ones i've looked at are all super low compared to what I remember having before being like 14k in their lifetime or something. I know there's training which can help but I feel like these lifetime earning just don't make sense. Some are less than 100?? Can someone help explain please and ty.
I'm putting up ones that are less than 1k up for auction to make space as since they don't seem worth it, but if it ends up being a mistake on my part i'll take them back.
Thank you -
I might've realized my mistake. They were all old, like 10+ YO, but the newer horses that are 4+ are all muh higher, earnings in the 10k+ range.

As you're saying it does depend on the age, at least what section you're looking at! Let us compare two horses of yours, Dapper, who is 21 years old, and Kelkoo Booking, who is 4 years old. I'll post their stats below.
Dapper:
Training: Leveled Off
Earnings this year: 14 hb's
Points this year: 3.0
Total earnings: 350 hb's
Total points: 1727.5
Daily Payout: 185 hb's
Current Lifetime Payout: 2590 hb's
Kelkoo Booking:
Training: Trained For Week
Earnings this year: 14 hb's
Points this year: 1.0
Total earnings: 14 hb's
Total points: 1398
Daily Payout: 150 hb's
Current Lifetime Payout: 61350 hb's
Now, let us talk stats.
Dapper has a higher Total Points, at 1727.5, compared to Kelkoo, who has a Total Points of 1398. If you compare the Daily Payouts, you can see that this does correlate with Dapper earing more than Kelkoo. So why is the Current Lifetime Payout so low for Dapper? Well, it is how it is calculated
The Current Lifetime Payout is calculated until the horse is 17 years old. So Kelkoo, who is a spritely 4 years old, has quite a few months until he reaches 17 and is in danger of passing away at rollover. Dapper, however, is above 17 years old. This means that Dapper has a chance to pass away at every single rollover, which means his Current Lifetime Payout is only calculated to the end of the month.
Does this mean you should auction off Dapper, or any horse 17+?
Well, it depends. If I get limited on space, I'll look at a horse who is 15 or older, and who has leveled off in their training. This means that they're not going to increase their score much, and so they're basically stuck at their current placement. Dapper, for example, has leveled off, and the last 2lessonsshows he was in he scored 14/15 in the shows, which is quite low. He will get some points, yes, but not many at that placement. However, due to his age and Current Lifetime Payout being so low, I would probably keep him until at least rollover to see if he survives. Horses aged 15 and above will get bidded on by the game equivalent to their Current Lifetime Payout. So if you have a horse with a lot of points, but who is placing dead last in every show and are leveled off, they're a good candidate for the auction and to free up space for another horse. Other people will keep the horses no matter what, because they do still contribute to the daily payout and, since the Current Lifetime Payout is only calculated to 17 years old, and then from a month on, the horse may survive rollover and contribute even more money than you can get from an auction, just over a longer period of time.

Okay, I think I get what you're saying. Is there a daily income you recommend keeping an older horse for? Since they could get more than an auction over time, but only depending. I probably won't be keeping any of my current older ones as I just got a bunch of new younger ones, like you saw with Kelkoo, that are much higher.

Just realised that I forgot to touch on PTs, like your title says!
PT, or Performance Test, indicates how long a horse can train for. The longer a horse can train, the higher their show score (under the Results tab), the more prestigious the show they will be entered into, the more money/points they can get from showing. However this does not guarantee that a horse with a high PT will be a good show horse, but it does say that they will be showing in a pool with better rewards than a low PT horse will be showing inProducer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Honestly? It depends. Different people cull for different reasons. Like I said I cull based on show placement. If a horse is leveled off in training and placing in the latter 2/3 of a show pool, I'll tend to auction them as they won't increase their daily payout by much due to not getting much more points. But if you've got the room to keep them I would, because if they survive rollover then that's even more money you're going to get out of the horseProducer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.
