    Hi everyone! I am very excited about this newest journey that presented itself over the weekend!

    My heart dog breed is the English bulldog. My oldest is 6, and while I did have permission from his breeder (family friend) to show and breed him (as long as he got his championship title first), having just graduated highschool, not a lot of money, time, or means to travel far for shows, I decided it wasn’t the right time and got him snipped. And I’ve regretted it ever since.

    HOWEVER. Over this last weekend, some friends of his breeder reached out to me asking me to take in a puppy. He’s had some unfortunate luck with getting two cherry eyes at 8weeks and an open umbilical hernia (the vet suspects it was an accident caused by another puppy), and when they went in for surgery to fix it, he had developed a low grade heart murmur (the vet also highly suspects he will grow out of it and it’s just his heart growing at different rates).
    We have decided (with breeders permission) that if he does grow out of it, and is able to get the surgery to fix those two issues, that we will show him.

    I’m just having trouble figuring out how to come up with a registration name! Has anyone come up with their own show name from scratch? His name is Merle if that helps.

    Ps- we are very open and understanding that this is no guarantee, and he will still have a loving lifelong home with us regardless of which direction we get taken :X

    ETA- I’m making this post to share my excitement, but to also get names since he will be registered regardless if he shows or not :)

    Depending on where you live, you can still show your older dog! Many countries have neutered classes now, you just need to find shows that offer it. I know that New Zealand and Australia do~

    Typically, the registered name will start with the kennel name. My parents are "Tribble" and they have mostly Pomeranians, some Chinese Cresteds. Their most recent show girl is called Helen, and her registered name is a play on "To hell and back". We have another, Tommie, who is called "Apomic Bomb", replacing the "Tom" in atomic with "Pom" and using the Tom as her name.

    Sometimes litters also have themes. Do you have an idea what the other puppies in the litter will be called? Using a theme can help a lot, even if it is to simply come up with a name.

    Naming after songs can help too! If you have one that you like, or you feel like it matches him in some way.

    @ObsidianKitsune those are so clever! I’m not sure about the other puppies in the litter, but I asked his breeder and it doesn’t sound like there’s much of a theme, just kind of something different for each dog. I’m trying to think of a Merle haggard song that my husband would like for a name but so far no luck lol

    In this case google can be your best friend lol! Also a notepad, to write down the "good ideas" or the ones not quite there to help get the creative juices flowing~

    before you consider breeding/showing him i would make sure these aren't genetic issues. these can be and are something you do not want to pass down. I have been around dog shows (english cockers and irish setters) my entire life.
