It's not Father's Day yet, but... (Seeking Inspiration)
  • I'm set to lose both of my parental tribute studs at rollover. :'(
It's a few months early - okay, it's a lot of months early - but I think they need to be replaced.
I just don't know what to replace them with!
I am trying to keep this herd free of closed genes so that any player can buy and/or breed straws and foals, so please don't suggest anything that requires a breeder's license.

  • The KP/DP/snow combo seems to be a popular one - maybe that with some flashy white genes?

Alternately, if you bred them yourself, you could clone?

  • Oh Lallyhop what a great idea! Clones coming right up!

  • Here's what I ended up with. Disappointing PT scores, unfortunately, but they weren't awesome to begin with.
What else should I add? Debating adding W2 to Green Man, as it's the second most popular white spotting gene (359 pages registered in the White Spotting club), but perhaps a second copy of Kit M would be better.

  • If you are feeling wealthy you CAN try bumping their consistency up (even though they are already consistent). I've found that you can SOMETIMES bump it up one more level.

  • I did already bump their consistency, as well as their height.
I'm really partial to w10, but it looks like not many people breed for that one. I’ll take a look at w3 and see, I’m not very familiar with it. :)

Edit - okay, W3 looks pretty neat at higher WF. I'm tempted to put it on Pipefitter just by itself!

  • Ohhh....... what if I merge them together?
Or, merged them (one or both) with something else?
Like, maybe merge them into an Exceptionally Perfect for that better PT?

  • Ohh, for sure! Keep in mind PT doesn't mean anything for how good their foals will be, though, that's only breeding quality (papers). PT is strictly showing ability.

  • Yes, I know that. But that higher PT can lead to some nice G2 foals for showing. :)
I just realized that my timing is actually just about perfect - Oct 27th was the 7th anniversary of his death, so I'm right on track for revitalizing those boys!
(Anniversary is such a weird word in this context.)
Folly's Fantasies #43484 (she/her): Horses, straws, and eggs from my Doubleskunk tribute herd are always free.
  • No, I mean that their PT has no impact on the PT of their foals. It's their breeding ability that influences the PT of the foals, which is why AFPT can be used to help determine breeding quality! A horse's PT references the quality of their parents and does not pass on individually, but a higher breeding ability can throw higher PT.

  • I've been playing for a few years now and hadn't managed to figure that out. I thought it was completely separate from breeding ability. I thought of it as kind of like genes, two higher PT parents would be likely to throw higher PT foals, in an incomplete-dominance sort of way.

So, to make sure I've got this right - Higher breeding ability = better PT foals (new information), but PT does not influence breeding ability (which I did know).
Folly's Fantasies #43484 (she/her): Horses, straws, and eggs from my Doubleskunk tribute herd are always free.
  • Yeah, so as far as I've come to understand, it throws in a range like breeding ability does! But it actually comes from the ability as well. That's why "PT doesn't show how good of a breeder a horse is" but at the same time "AFPT can be used to help cull." You'll usually see higher PT from higher PT horses because as long as they passed breeding advice or comp test or whatever, they're gonna be good solid stock in terms of breeding quality. As an overall whole (at least four or five foals with the same scenario each time) a higher gold will throw higher breeding ability and PT than a lower gold, which is why at higher levels you can use AFPT to drop out mares on the lower end of breeding quality from your program. For the individual foal, though, it might have gotten a PT from the parent's higher end and breeding ability from the lower end or vice versa, which is why in a single horse, without looking at heritage, PT and breeding ability are completely unrelated.

  • Well, that will make sorting bootstrap mares a bit easier!
