Odd question ... pregnancy tales
-
Okay so I have a mare in foal , she’s due may 16th/17th of this year (2021) ...I was curious to know if there’s an old wives tale to find out the gender, here in Scotland it’s not possible to find out ( no clue why) but In England you can get it done. I’m dying to know the gender , if it’s a colt , I may not be able to keep him and I prefer fillies /mares. I hope for a healthy foal but I’m just dying to know if there’s a way to find out :D

My grandmother used to tell me that if the mare was pregnant longer than 11 months, the foal was a colt. And then she jokingly said, "Apparently it takes an extra month or so to make the boy parts." =))Love,

Ultrasounds can usually tell if you’ve got a filly or colt. Also if you breed your mare again via AI and want a filly there is this new product called FILLYPLUS that is a Semen sexing agent for use in mares during artificial insemination to produce fillies. The agent boosts the % of female foal to 75% and increase overall semen fertility. They also have colt plus if you want a colt.
