I am pretty sure that KP doesn't "ride" a kit gene. In other words, if your heterozygous horse had roan passed along via its sire, and he got sabino from his non-KP dam, he can pass along KP and the sabino instead of the roan. Am I understanding what you're asking correctly?

I have a couple of horses who definitely carry KP but no kit, and I haven't had enough generations past them to figure out if they can pass KP on, but I suspect that they can, with kit bred into the line further down.

In real life there is a potential for genes to be "linked" if they are physically located close together on the same chromosome. So for example if a horse's Tobiano and KP were physically located close together on one chromatid of a chromosome and he has roan and no KP on the other chromatid, most of his tobiano offspring would carry the KP (by inheriting the KP and Tobiano chromatid) and most of his roan offspring would not carry the KP (by inheriting the roan and no KP chromatid). It would not always follow that rule though because crossover can occur between chromatids to swap genes between chromatids during meiosis and the KP gene could be swapped to the roan chromatid during that stage of meiosis.

Crossover is more likely to "break" the linkage between genes if they are farther apart, so that is why genes usually have to be physically close together on the chromosome to be considered "linked" and inherited together at a higher rate than normal.

That being said, I do not believe gene linkage and crossover is incorporated into the game. So unless I am wrong about that, your game ponies should all have a 50/50 chance of having your stallion's KP regardless of the other genes they inherited from him.

We DO have gene linkage in this game, and there are multiple linked genes.

One that I know was discussed publicly on our old forum years ago is the linkage between Extension and Kit roan and tobiano. Extension and Kit are located on the same gene, I believe, and at the same end of the gene so that they travel along together during meiosis. (I hope I've got all that technically correct.)
