How is Her KP possible?
-
This filly is Homzygous Kit Prompter. Her sire is heterozygous from Sabino 2, and her dam is heterozygous from White Spotting Kit M. She got Sabino 2 from dad with White 20 from (a Non KP great granddam) on mom's side and turned out homozyous Kit Prompter. To my knowledge, the KP can not jump genes; which is why I am curious how she came out Hom KP instead of het.

both her parents are heterozygous for KP so she got both copies :)Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

Furthur explanation: KP itself is a separate gene than the Kit Genes. Its not testable. It basically just "compliments" kit genes. So as long as the horse has any two kit genes (roan, tobiano, White 1, 2, 3, 8, 10, 20, Kit M, sabino 1 or sabino 2) and is hom KP, the KP will show. So the reason your filly is hom KP is because her parents are het and she got both copies of kp as well as two kit genes.Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

Oh yeah! I forget that it is like DP or GP, and not passed on with the specific kit genes. My brain is being corroded by work a lot lately.Thanked by 1AHayesHorses
