Happy Solstice!
  • Happy Summer Solstice, everybody!

We were at Stonehenge in September, and the sun was nowhere to be seen, but hey, it's still Stonehenge!

  • Beautiful. I want to see Stonehenge someday.

  • I would love to see it, too. Here's a poem I wrote early in this century (:D ) to go with your visual images.

    SALISBURY SENTINELS

    A core of mystery
    linking earth and sky—
    lichened giants rise
    to pierce yielding clouds.

    What fierce hearts,
    driven by desire,
    raised these stones?
    Listen, still they throb
    in the silent plain.

    Their patient sentinels mark
    midsummer’s sun today,
    still pin the passing year.
    What anchor for our world
    of change can we erect
    to match this living presence
    left by vanished tribes ?

De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

  • It is sunny here at the moment - well it's just setting in the sky at 10pm at night. Been a few times to Stonehenge but then I live a bit closer than most :)
Breeding brown/liver/black with white spotting drafts. If you ever fancy straws PM me. PM me if you need help with GE.
  • Even though it's stormy here it doesn't go properly dark this time of year, the sun sets but it stays lighter, though the sun only sets for a couple of hours. it's almost 22.20 and it's still like day time.

  • I've been once, I'm hoping g to bring the kids while we are here this time. We aren't far from it. The weather is beautiful right now.
  • Sandy, I love the poem! Truth! One of my souveniers is a bit of bluestone similar to those used at Stonehenge, and I rub it every day and remember that trip! We paid extra to go up right into the circle. They still wouldn't let us touch the stones though.
