Generation question
-
Now that I merged two barns I am getting a very good start. But what generation is a foal who is out of a second generation stud and foundation mare? That confuses me.Quality riding horses with DP, Sooty+, Sooty, SB1 and SB2.

I used to label it 2G3. The first number always the lowest generation parent. The second the highest it could be counted. But now I just call it uneven and label it by paper in my own weird way. But don't want to confuse you more. Lol. I would just call it uneven so people can look back in the pedigree and judge for themselvesBreeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

I just call them all UE for uneven and breed them by using their paper level. Most of my UE mares are my show line mares though.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

I think what’s important with uneven is to find a system of notation that works for YOU. There are tons of systems out there for unevenly bred stock still being used for breeding. Generally people breed them based on their paper levels or use them as show pony breeders, or they bred them when they were figuring out the game at the beginning and hang on to them because they fell in love or they are using them to bootstrap a line. Whatever the reason, just find a way of noting it that works for you and stick with it. Mine have a U at the end of their color/generation suffix instead of a generation number.

I have added the generation at the end of their names. And in the owners notes I have put uneven.Quality riding horses with DP, Sooty+, Sooty, SB1 and SB2.
