Closed genes being sold altered?

I have heard both that closed genes means only the people that purchased them can own them (intact or not), and also that you can alter the horse and sell them since they won't be able to reproduce. Can you help me out?
Like at one point I even asked if I could have the gene between my own accounts, but was told no, only the account purchased on can have the gene. (I am not Positive, but I'm pretty sure I think this was right after when ice 1,5,8 were taken off/banned from public breeding and I was asking about 2 and 4?)ID# 2353 -

The ability to sell altered closed gene carriers is new.

Golden Tokens have been renamed Diamond Tokens to prevent mixing them up with GMTs. Double boosted over cap horses are now designated as ****Star or ****Gold, again to prevent further member confusion issues I have been seeing.
