    She's definitely Het DP. She's got S+ and she's pangare.....what do y'all think? Black or just liver?

    Her dad is homozygous DP if that helps.

    Yep, she's definitely black. I found a het DP a few down who's noticably lighter.

    Yes I knew it it's crazy how much the sooty+ makes the coat not really look like a black liver the reddish dappled look is very pretty

    Cheers, your mantra of "het brown is always darker than hom brown" rings through my head lol. This girl is het brown and her top is the same darkness as your foal, I think, but her belly is much lighter. I'm about 90% sure she's het dp.

    Oh wow! She's gorgeous, Obsidian! I am definitely putting that Brown thread on my list for tomorrow. I'm just not solid on DP with S+ in brown!

    Well, S+ tends to have its own pattern, so maybe just look at the bits of a dp brown that the S+ isn't affecting? As a matter of fact with most dp, and other colours/patterns, I look at the withers, to determine the base colour and decide on that. I only can't do it with appy, basically. Or tobiano, since it'll sometimes cover it up.

    The belly is usually my frame of reference for brown....which is also where S+ has strong effects!

    So I was looking for a S+ hom brown to compare to my girl, hoping to find a het dp one, and I think I did. Lo and Behold, you bred him Cheers xD

    Anyway you can tell, even from the withers, the huge difference in colour. My girl looks basically black there, whereas Alphabet is more of a dusky brown.
