Straws vs live cover
-
When breeding to an outside stallion, is there any benefit of using straws? Is there a higher chance of intact foals over just hitting breed to this horse?
I know that using straws costs more. -
Nope! No difference. The only advantage of straws is that you can go over a stallions 50 goal a season limit with straws
-
Also, you can often get access to some nicer studs if you buy straws. Many people that have fancy studs don't put them up for public breeding because they want to guarantee that only quality offspring from their stud remain intact, but they will sell straws because they can ask you to follow a set of breeding rules when you purchase straws. You can't set any breeding rules if you put a stud up for public breeding, but you can make whatever rules you want with straws.

Personally I only pasture breed, or do embryo transfer with an egg/straw in the lab, for a mare I'd like to breed more than once..
But don't forget you have a 1 in 10,000 chance of twins with live cover!! :DAztecArabians
