    I am trying to understand HET and HOM better. I see that I have some horses that only carry one gene of something (Eg Pearl) but it shows up in their coat. As an example of what I am asking I will use my two snowflake boys, even though I know it is harder as Snowflake isn't testable.

    Would this guy be a HET snowflake or did he miss out on the gene altogether?

    Hom - homozygous - same eg ee

    I believe that snowflake MUST be hom to show up so the first horse is het snowflake.

    You got all the pearls right. The middle one could also be described as het cream too.

    snow flake must be hom to show so has to have got one each from sire and dam plus have appy to show, If only one parent gives one snowflake then they are het and it will not show even if appy , snow sonic is het as he would have got one from his sire, Snow Serenade got one from dam who is a het snowflake and one from sire who is Hom snowflake he also got appy from dad so the snowflake will show. Pearl is different in that you can test for it , you normally need 2 pearl for the colour name to say pearl. however if you have one pearl and one cream gene then the name will also say pearl.
    So Goobanni Winter Phoenix is Hom Pearl ,you can see to pearl in his colour test on the C so his colour say pearl,
    Goobanni First Winter G2 is Het Pearl so he has one pearl on his C but also one cr (cream) on the other C because he has cream also his colour says Pearl
    Goobanni Winter Aspen G2 is also het pearl He has one pearl on his C but no Pearl on the other C as there is no cream to act with the pearl he does not the pearl in his colour name
