GP v. Splash
-
Quick question: can a horse that phenotypically shows splash have/carry GP? I was looking at a couple of my horses and noticed they've got white in their tails, but they're splash--which I know also can have white in the tail.
If they can show GP, how would you tell?ID# 25784 -
Both genes can cause white at the bottom of the tail. Splash will usually show other white markings, starting from the legs up, depending on the amount of white factor.
For GP to show up, horses must be bay based--bay, brown, buckskin, amber champagne--and homozygous for GP.
If a horse that could show GP also has splash with lots of white factor, I'm not sure how you could tell about the GP, unless you could find evidence of it in the horse's ancestors.
De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
