Just like real life, HaJ horses get in trouble. :D I only worry when a horse's total damages begin to impinge on their contribution to the showing bonus by a large amount. Especially for older horses that have begun advancing up the showing ladder. I always give younger horses and new creates a chance.
Back in the beginning of the game, I've been told, damages was about the only way to judge when a horse wasn't worth breeding, since the range of tests available now hadn't been developed yet. In those days, a horse could get over 100 hbs worth of damage in one shot. Now I've only seen damages over 10 in a single instance in a few cases.
I wouldn't worry too much about even the foal's 5 hb. damage, unless he keeps on doing that much on a regular basis.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Me, too. I weigh the higher damages like that against the total points of the horse, and give them a pass if they have several hundred points or more, remembering that those point usually contribute more to daily showing bonus than they cost for a single instance of high damages. If the pattern continues, though I still occasionally auction off a high-damages horse.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
