You can check your hbs by clicking stable home. It will be to the right. There is a white box and inside that box is a blue rectangle with your balance in orange.

Best way to earn more hbs is to start a show herd. The more points the horse has the more you get as a show bonus. You can adopt show horses from other players. Just go to the search horses tab and put "available to adopt" in the tattoo box. Send a message with the horses link to its owner and they should let you buy the horse for create price. You can also put an "ad" in the horses for sale and breeding. Just ask for horses for show.
Obviously you will need extra barns for your show horses (most players shove them into a barn and leave them) you can get this by purchase through real money. Or you can wait for the horses to "pay for themselves" which basically means they build up enough money to buy IVs and get extra barns. IVs cost 12,500 hbs each and the cheapest barn is 5 IVs and holds 15 horses

I currently have 202 gelded/spayed horses that combined with my intact stocked brings in 8,509 hbs a day
