So my new mare Little Wind had a Liver filly today, does that mean she hasa something called DP?
-
His father is homozygous for it, she doesn't have it because she's gold champagne instead of sable. But she is pretty, and foals from her and circus are guaranteed to be livers. All into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps.
-
Well, she is homozygous Sty, which darkens the coat, so she could be a carrier of DP, it's just not seen as well with the Champagne. Same problem with double creams. Cremello's are just chestnuts with two cream genes, so they hide if they carry DP as well.

Just to clarify something Wildland said-- there are 4 colors of champagne: gold, amber, sable and classic. Gold are red based, Amber are bay or wild bay, sable are brown and classic are black. Any of these four may carry DP but none will be registered in the Liver club.Thanked by 1Wildland Acres
